5G services rolled out in Kerala; Jio launches facility on trial basis in Kochi

Downloading a movie at a glance or watching a sports match on a mobile app without lag will be impossible, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited will roll out its ‘True 5G’ services on a trial basis in Kochi city on Tuesday. .

The service provider claims that the move to 5G will increase internet speed by 100-150 times compared to the current average speed of 10 megabits per second. (mbps) 12 mbps.

“During the tests, we achieved a speed of 1,200 mbps, which means that actions such as downloading a long film can be carried out almost immediately. In other words, it will only take a hundredth of the time it takes now. It will also facilitate, say, remote healthcare where a doctor sitting somewhere in Brazil can accurately guide a surgery here in real time,” said a Jio spokesperson.

Live streaming on mobile apps will be in real time, unlike now when there can be a delay of seconds to minutes.

“The rollout of 5G services will be especially beneficial for low-latency based applications,” said Anoop P. Ambika, CEO, Kerala Startup Mission. This includes systems and functions such as the Internet of Things, augmented reality, industrial automation and drone communication.

Rather than individual users, 5G with its increased bandwidth would perhaps benefit larger companies and organizations connected to a network system. It will also benefit the startup ecosystem.

“(5G) is a decent balance of high data speeds, ultra-low latency and energy efficiency. There are many use cases that require all these features in the right proportion,” a Jio spokesperson said.

The service provider is installing enabling equipment across Kerala and remains confident of covering the entire State by December 2023. The 5G services will be available to Jio users in Kochi at this time as a welcome pack with a data plan starting at ₹239.
