A seven-year-old girl was killed by a leopard in Sonardi village of Gujarat’s Junagadh district on Saturday, forest officials said.
Mannat Rathod was dragged by a leopard when his grandparents were going to a river to wash clothes, said Vanthali Range Forest Officer LH Sujetra.
“The incident happened at 11:00. The villagers took the child to a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival. Four or five cages have been placed in the area to catch the leopard,” he said.
According to his relatives, the victim insisted on going to the river with his grandparents after school.
His grandparents were said to have raised the alarm, which brought villagers to the spot, and a man threw stones into the bushes to free the leopard cub to no avail.
