By India Today Web Desk: The Bihar cabinet on Tuesday decided to introduce 75543 vacancies for police posts in various categories in a bid to achieve the target of creating 10 lakh jobs in the state. The cabinet approved a total of 13 agendas.

The Cabinet has approved the creation of 7808 posts for the first phase of Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) Dial 112, police cadre and constable cadre, according to Additional Chief Secretary S Siddharth.

The state administration has decided to directly appoint officers to 48447 posts to strengthen the police force and meet the demands of the expanding population. The chief secretary said, “The cabinet has also approved 19288 posts under ERSS phase 2 recruitment.”

On February 27, 2022, at the Police Week closing ceremony, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stated that the state government aimed to increase the ratio of police officers in the state from 165 to 170.

It is important to note that while there are 195.39 authorized police officers per lakh people, only 155.78 are working in India. Bihar still has only 100 policemen for every 1,00,000 people.
