Right-wing activists allegedly beat up a youth in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district on Tuesday, calling for love jihad.
The activists allegedly caught the young man with a girl at Treasure Island Mall in the city.
According to sources, they were asked the name of the youth and he told them that it was Monu Verma.
When asked to produce his identity card, he reportedly said his real name was Moin Khan.
Activists alleged that the youth was beaten up on charges of love jihad and later handed over to the Tukoganj police.
A video allegedly showing youths being beaten up also surfaced on social media.
Tukoganj police station in-charge Kamlesh Sharma said, “A girl approached the police station along with some Bajrang Dal activists. She had gone to watch a movie at TI mall in the city with a youth from another community. Initially, the youth said. activists Monu but when questioned later, he gave his name as Moin, a resident of Manikbagh in the city.”
“We are inquiring more girls and action will be taken accordingly,” added Mr. Sharma.
