With the return of the Ranji Trophy to its full format, the BCCI has asked the recruited Indian stars to make themselves available for the home season. The move comes down to new chairman Roger Binny helping players stay fit at all times. As a result, a host of Indian stars will be in action when the second round matches begin on Tuesday, December 20.
Star supporters Ishant Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane were already available for their national teams, while Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson were also included in their national squads. Now for the second round, Suryakumar Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have been made available. The star Indian duo will play their first red-ball match since the COVID-19 pandemic.

- India’s white-ball stars return to red-ball cricket in the Ranji Trophy.
- Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan featured in the first round match for Kerala and Jharkhand.
- Suryakumar Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have been made available from round 2.
- Non-stars Ishant Sharma, Hanuma Vihari and Ajinkya Rahane are also performing.
- The move comes after the BCCI asked the players to rest and make themselves available in domestic cricket.
- Only all players in the format should be given rest as per BCCI’s new dictum.
When he was appointed as president, Roger Binny made it clear that Indian cricket fans should play at home. Now, the players have been asked to represent their states if they are not playing international series. As such, only multi-format players are allowed to rest during international breaks.
“It had to happen. They need match practice to stay fit. With so many injuries lately, we need to have players ready for all formats. The President stated that all Indian players except boys in all formats should play at home. BCCI official told InsideSport

After India’s exit from the T20 World Cup, the BCCI was criticized for not allowing Indian players to seek opportunities in franchise leagues abroad. Chairman Binny, coach Rahul Dravid and many others opined that the structure of the house would simply collapse. Now that India’s recruited stars are also in the running, there are more incentives for the state association and the players.
