THAMARASSERY: Thamarassery Diocese asked to withdraw satellite survey. Bishop Mar Remigius Inchananiyil said a social impact study needs to be done and the map is full of errors. He also said that the government should understand the pain of people living in mountainous areas in the buffer zone issue.

The bishop also alleged that there is a conspiracy in the delay in releasing the survey report. We are only asking the farmers for the right to live. The government should stand by them to achieve this. He said that it should be given to two or three ministers to study the matter.

The bishop said in a press conference that the public awareness trips will start tomorrow. In the meantime, the Bainutegi City Council approved a resolution on the issue of the buffer zone. The resolution was approved by the CPM-led governing committee. The entire city of Sultan Batheri is within the buffer zone.

Concerns arose after satellite survey maps of the mountainous region were published on the sites. The response of the diocese today was a succession. CPM and the government will try to retaliate politically with Congress and UDF entering the scene. However, the participation of dioceses is a challenge.

The government is trying to reassure the diocese that it will not accept the satellite survey as it stands and will go to the field to investigate and resolve the objections. Only the Latin diocese held protests in Vizhinjam. In the buffer zone, all the Christian dioceses are against the government. Congress is also moving to use the buffer zone as a weapon against the government as it is an issue of increased power and influence.
