The government has said that samples of all Covid-positive cases should be sent daily to INSACOG genome sequencing laboratories, mapped to all states and Union Territories. INSACOG is a forum under Ministry of Health to study and control various strains of Covid in India.

“Given the sudden influx of cases occurring in Japan, the United States of America, the Republic of Korea, Brazil and China, it is imperative to adapt whole genome sequencing of samples from positive cases to track variants,” reads a letter. by Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan to all states.
