CM KCR likely to launch new buses soon: TSRTC Chairman

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao is expected to release about 50 new buses from a fleet of 300 buses that he recently acquired from the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC).

TSRTC chairman Bajireddy Govardhan launched the song ‘Telangana on Track’, sung by Ram Miriyala on the corporation buses here on Wednesday, said that old buses were being phased out and new vehicles would be added in the coming months.

“In the first phase, 300 new buses are being inducted into the TSRTC fleet. Of these, 50 vehicles will be commissioned by the Chief Minister very soon,” he said.

Today, the corporation was earning between 14 million and 15 million euros per day. Out of 93 bus depots across the state, about 40 to 50 were profitable now and efforts were being made to develop other depots, he said.

The TSRTC chairman said that when he was given the responsibility to revive the corporation, he took it as a challenge. “The chief minister, worried that the corporation was losing money, encouraged me to take all possible steps to make the company profitable. The state government has also sanctioned huge funds,” he said, adding that the corporation has nearly 50,000 employees and around 75 per cent of its citizens travel in its buses.
