Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on December 24 that guidelines for New Year celebrations would be issued soon and appealed to citizens not to panic over the new wave of COVID-19.

Speaking to presspersons in Hubballi on December 24, the Chief Minister said that the Health and Revenue Ministers would convene a meeting on the issue on December 25. Steps would be taken to organize camps at taluk and district level to administer booster doses, he said.

Mr. Bommai said steps would be taken for testing, apart from making testing mandatory for ILI and SARI cases. Also, measures would be taken to ensure masks, physical distancing and other measures.

No early polls

To a query, Mr. Bommai clarified that the government was not thinking about holding early polls. “So far we are trying to reach people with our programs and based on that we will try to get a mandate,” he said.

Taking a jibe at the Congress party, the CM said that the party was afraid that if there was more time for the elections, its infighting might escalate and that is why its leaders were giving the early election message to the workers, he said.
