Bengaluru: Amid the fresh surge in Covid cases globally, the Karnataka government is expected to issue new guidelines on Friday. “I appeal to the people of Karnataka to take the booster dose as soon as possible. People should wear masks, especially indoors and maintain social distance. Today the Union Health Min is conducting a meeting with us and will accordingly follow the Centre’s guidelines,” Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar told news agency ANI.

Previously, the state made face masks mandatory in closed spaces and air-conditioned rooms. The Karnataka government has decided to make Covid testing mandatory for those with influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI).

Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is holding a virtual meeting with state health ministers on the Covid-19 situation and preparedness today.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting to review the status and performance of the public health response to COVID-19 and stressed the need to strengthen surveillance through genome sequencing and increased testing.
