New Delhi: After several countries that have reported a resurgence of the virus reviewed India’s Covid situation, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday said the pandemic is not over yet, but “we are ready to handle any situation”.
He made the remark after holding a review meeting with senior officials of Nirman Bhavan.
Taking to Twitter, the minister said: Given the rise in Covid-19 cases in some countries, he has reviewed the situation with experts and officials today.
“Covid is not over yet. I have directed all officials to be alert and to strengthen vigilance. We are ready to handle any situation.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has also written to states to increase whole genome sequencing of positive cases to track the new variant of Covid.
In a letter issued on Tuesday, the Ministry said: “In view of the sudden increase in cases observed in Japan, the US, South Korea, Brazil and China, it is essential to prepare the full genome sequencing of the samples of positive cases to continue. variants through the SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium network of India”.
