Hyderabad: Lucknow-based Dabang Daredevils clinched the National Amateur Golf League title after beating runners-up Mysa 3-2 in a nail-biting final at the Boulder Hills Golf & Country Club here.
After taking the lead, the Lucknow team maintained a slight lead for most of the match before Mysa clawed back to tie the game. The singles matches went in favor of Lucknow, while the first two Fourball matches were taken by Team Mysa. With the teams deadlocked at two points, it all came down to the anchor game, which was all square until the 13th hole.
Yesterday playoff hero SidharthSagar turned on the screw and hit some clutch putts to build momentum in his team’s favor and took three of the next 4 holes to seal victory and with it Dabang Daredevils’ first national title.
Rajneesh Sethi, Co-Owner of Dabang Daredevils stated, “We came here with no expectations as we don’t even have a tournament like Boulder Hills at home. It was a team win in its purest sense, we slowed down at the right times and tried to play with a confused mind. Our approach paid off and this win is for Lucknow.”
In the bronze medal play-off, Golfers’ Guild won 3-2 against Nanofix from Kolkata. Nanofix looked to make up for yesterday’s disappointment with a strong start. But as in any game, when the momentum changes, it’s very difficult to hold on to the back nine. That’s exactly what happened and the Delhi NCR team rallied to win two games on the 18th to close out a memorable victory.
