Dhruv Shorey remained unbeaten on 252 for Delhi as they were bowled out for 439 behind the Assam foursome’s 158 and 281 runs at the end of the second day in the Ranji Trophy.

Dhruv Shorey made a brilliant unbeaten double century for Delhi as he took Delhi to 439 on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Group B match against Assam on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old opener continued from where he left off on Tuesday, making up his runs quickly until he finally ran out of partners at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

At the end of the match, Assam were 158 for four and Delhi were 281 runs behind.

Shorey, who was unbeaten on 139 on Tuesday, eventually finished on 252 not out, stitching his innings with 34 boundaries and two sixes.

The Delhi cricketer did not sacrifice his run rate as he approached the double century mark, scoring at a healthy strike rate of 80 from 315 deliveries.

This was Shorey’s highest first-class score in 45 games, the previous best being 145. The double century will do more good to his already healthy batting average of 48.49.

Starting at 271 for seven on the second day, Shorey lost his overnight partner Vikas Mishra, who added over 11 runs to the score, before dismissing Assam’s left-arm pace bowler Mrinmoy Dutta for 22 runs.

Sensing that he would eventually run out of partners, Shorey took most of the strike, scoring runs at a brisk pace as Delhi crossed the 400-run mark thanks to veteran batsman Harshit Rana’s (24) 91-run partnership with last man Harshit Rana (24).

Assam got off to a torrid innings, losing skipper Kunal Saikia for 12, while Rahul Hazarika retired with four injuries. Riyan Parag was soon dismissed for 10, while Sibsankar Roy also went for a duck, leaving the hosts reeling on 60 for four.

Rishav Das (71 not out) was involved in the rescue act with Gokul Sharma (39 not out) and the pair ensured that Assam closed the day on 158 for four in 44 overs.
