Flyover will reduce Porvorim snarls: CM | Goa News

Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said that the traffic snarl in Porvorim cannot be resolved till the new flyover is ready, and sought the cooperation of citizens. After inaugurating a traffic room in Porvorim, Sawant said that before work on the flyover begins, the existing road will be widened on land acquired by the government. The work on this has already started, he said.
Sawant said Porvorim now has its own traffic cell as part of the government’s move to increase infrastructure and human resources to cater to the increase in foot traffic once the Mopa airport becomes operational.
“It will take three months to train the new recruits,” Sawant said, explaining that the recruitment drive for the police, which was hit by the pandemic and led to a staff shortage, has ended.
He also said that if the tourism industry must be protected, it must be controlled. “We have seen how the problems in the mining industry have affected the state in the last 10 years. Therefore, we all have to work together to keep our tourism industry going for the next 25 years,” he said. “If we keep fighting with tourists, they won’t visit Goa.”
