Kottayam: Police have arrested three men for allegedly stalking and assaulting two college students near Central Junction here on Monday night. The accused have been identified as Muhammad Aslam (29), Anas Ashkar (22) and Shabeer (32) natives of Thazhathangadi. The alleged footage of the incident, which took place around 10.30pm, emerged on Wednesday, revealing the generosity of the perpetrators.

The university students, including a girl, were on their way to give clothes to their friend, who was hospitalized. The two-wheeler was stopped at a roadside restaurant near Bharat Hospital for food.

A group of men who were there approached and made comments about the girl and her male friend. The men reportedly asked the girl why she was dating a boy at night.

The students questioned the men and then left the two-wheeler. However, these men gave chase and blocked the vehicle. After that, the couple was allegedly beaten.

The patrol duty police saw the incident and intervened. Three men were taken into police custody while other officials hospitalized the injured students at Kottayam Medical College.

The accused men, all in their twenties, have been booked under sections 354 (aggravation) and 307 (attempt to murder), an officer from the Kottayam West police station said.

“They were arrested on Monday night and after questioning, the arrest was recorded today. They will be presented to the court during the day”, said the agent.

According to reports, this is an alleged case of moral policing and mob attack.
