Health Minister Mandaviya to review Covid situation on Wednesday


New Delhi, December 20 (IANS): Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will review the country’s Covid-19 situation on Wednesday.

In view of the sudden rise in new Covid infections in many countries around the world, a review of the country’s situation is expected at 11 am on Wednesday with top officials.

Meanwhile, the Center has also asked states to step up whole genome sequencing of positive cases to track new variants.

In a letter to all states and UTs, the health ministry said, “In view of the sudden surge in cases seen in Japan, the United States of America, the Republic of Korea, Brazil and China, it is imperative to be prepared. Genome sequencing of samples of positive cases of SARS-CoV-2 in India 2 to track variants through the Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) network.”

Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, in the letter, said that the exercise will enable timely detection of new variants circulating in the country and facilitate the adoption of necessary public health measures.

“In this context, all states are requested to send samples of all positive cases as far as possible on a daily basis to designated INSACOG Genome Sequencing Laboratories (IGSLs) mapped to States and UTs,” he said. he said
