Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed grief after 16 Army personnel lost their lives in the Sikkim tragedy
New Delhi: In a tragic accident, sixteen Indian Army soldiers lost their lives when the vehicle they were traveling in fell into a gorge while negotiating a sharp turn at Zema in North Sikkim. Among the dead are three Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs). Prime Minister Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh among other leaders have expressed condolences over the tragic incident.
The wreath laying on the mortal remains of the army jawans killed in the accident will be held at the Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal on Saturday, the Army said.

On the way to Zemara, the army vehicle went down a steep incline while negotiating a sharp turn. A rescue mission was immediately launched and four injured soldiers have been airlifted,” the Army said in a statement.
