IMD forecasts heavy rainfall in Kerala till Saturday, issues orange, yellow alerts


Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in Kerala till Saturday. Heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms are also expected in isolated parts of the state. Authorities have issued an orange and yellow alert in several districts until Saturday.

According to the IMD, a cyclone has formed over the North Andaman Sea. As a result, strong cyclonic winds are likely to develop in the Bay of Bengal. In the next 48 hours, this is likely to intensify into a low pressure belt over Southeast Bengal.

The IMD predicted that it is likely to move in a west-northwest direction and intensify into a cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal. Currently, there is a cyclone in the Arabian Sea near the Maharashtra coast. As a result, there is a possibility of widespread rain over Kerala from Tuesday to October 22.

Orange and yellow alert in several districts

Wednesday: Orange alert for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode

Thursday: Orange alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur

Friday: Orange alert for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad

Saturday: Yellow alert in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts.
