Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India]Dec 23 (ANI): Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty on Friday asked Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to take action for a detailed inquiry into the death of 10-year-old cyclo polo player Fatima Nida Shihabuddin.

Fatima, a member of the Kerala team who had traveled to Nagpur in Maharashtra to participate in the Junior National Cycle Polo Championship, died on Thursday.

Sivankutty, in a letter to Shinde, said, “I would like to request you to take steps to ensure that Fatima Nida Shihabuddin, a member of the Kerala team, came to participate in the National Cycle Junior Under Polo tournament (December 22-30, 2022).

The Kerala minister also asked to look into the allegation that the child was not given adequate medical care.

“Allegations that the child did not receive better medical care should also be included during the investigation period. All assistance related to the investigation will be provided by the Kerala government. We will await your serious action in this regard,” he said.

10-year-old Fatima, a cyclo-polo player from Ammalpooza village in Kerala, died in Nagpur on Thursday.

Dhantoli Police has registered a case of accidental death and further investigation is underway.

Fatima came with the team to play the national championship. The Nagpur District and Maharashtra Association organized the competition on Thursday at the Sadbhavna Nagar ground in Darshan Colony, adjacent to KDK College.

Fatima was unwell due to a stomach ache. He also vomited.

On Thursday morning, he reached Shrikrishna Hospital in Congress Nagar at around 9.30 am.

The doctor examined him and gave him an injection. Five minutes after the injection, Fatima complained of feeling unwell. He also collapsed in front of the doctor and after that doctor declared him dead. The doctor said the cause of death was a heart attack. (ANI)
