The row over Jeremy Clarkson’s column about Meghan Markle has escalated, with his own Sun newspaper column attracting a record number of complaints.

In her op-ed published on Friday (December 16), she wrote that she dreamed of the day Markle, 62, would parade around Britain naked as crowds shouted “shame” and threw “excrement” at her.

Clarkson said that “everyone my age thinks the same”.

Sun he has now removed Clarkson’s comment section from his website. “In response to Jeremy Clarkson’s tweet, he asked us to remove last week’s column,” the page now reads.

More than 60 cross-party MPs have written to him of the sun editor to apologize and request “action taken” against Clarkson. The SNP’s shadow culture minister called for Clarkson to be banned from TV altogether.

Other critics included Clarkson’s daughter Emily, who has previously spoken out against online misogyny and bullying.

Piers Morgan – a sharp critic of Harry and Meghan – has also weighed in, saying that he is “not defending what Clarkson wrote”, asking “where is the anger at the lies / dirt thrown at the royal family”.

Ipso confirmed on December 20 that it had received more than 17,500 complaints about the presenter’s column, more than all received in 2021.

John Amaechi, OBE, a British-American psychologist and former basketball player, said Clarkson’s op-ed and “apologetic rationalizations afterwards should horrify us all”.

Conservative MP rejects Clarkson’s apology

Caroline Nokes, MP for Romsey and Southampton North in Hampshire, has rejected Clarkson’s apology for her opinion piece, calling it an “acknowledgement of hurt”.
