Kaapa to Djinn: Here are the Christmas and New Year releases in Malayalam


December’s schedule is all theatrical releases, with OTT platforms pulling films that have already had a theatrical or festival release.

While there are no superstar releases in Malayalam this Christmas and New Year, some others are coming out in the next two weeks. These are all theatrical releases. Most of this month’s OTT releases are films that have already had a theatrical release, for example Gold and Municipal.

1. Kaapa – Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran will work with director Shaji Kailas in a film that delves into the world of crime and gang warfare. Set in Thiruvananthapuram, the story is by renowned writer GR Indugopan. Apart from Prithviraj, actors Aparna Balamurali, Anna Ben and Asif Ali also play prominent roles in the film. Kaapa It is expected to be released on December 22.

2. Thuramukham – Critically acclaimed director Rajeev Ravi’s highly anticipated film, Thuramukhams release has already been delayed several times. It is now expected to be released on December 22, before the Christmas weekend. Nivin Pauly helms this period film, set during the British rule of India. Other talented actors like Nimisha Sajayan, Indrajith Sukumaran, Joju George and Arjun Ashokan also play important roles in the film.

3. Naalam Mura – Biju Menon and Guru Somasundaram will team up in this thriller directed by Deepu Anthikad. Guru has become very popular since he played the villain Minnal Murali. The film will be released on December 23.

4. Aanandam Paramanandam – A comedy starring Sharaf U Dheen and Indrans, Aanandam Paramanandam (meaning “Joy, last joy”) has a ghost in the middle of things. A young woman (played by Anagha Narayanan) has to deal with her alcoholic father (Indrans) and an unemployed husband in the film directed by Shafi. The film will be released on December 23.

5. Oh Meri Laila – The film is a romance set in a university campus, by Antony Varghese (Pepe) and others. It is directed by Abhishek KS and is expected to release on December 23rd.

6. Kakkipada – Based on real-life events, the story is about the murder of an eight-year-old girl by an influential person. There seems to be a parallel with the Walayar case where two minor sisters were found raped and killed in the same year. Actors Sarath Appani, Sujith Shankar and Niranj Maniyanpilla Raju play cops in the film and drive the narrative. Shebi Chowgat has written and directed the film which will release on December 23rd.

7. Djinn – A horror comedy directed by Siddharth Bharathan, Djinn He is led by Soubin Shahir. The release of the film that revolves around the subject of witchcraft has been anticipated for a while. It is expected to be released on December 30th. Djinn This is the only New Years release announced so far, with more expected to come out in time for the New Year.
