Thiruvananthapuram: Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal on Friday got a clean chit from the CBI when he submitted its report in the CBI court here that there is no merit in the allegations of sexual abuse leveled against him by the prime accused in the solar scam case.
It was in August last year that the CBI registered cases against former Kerala minister Oommen Chandy, Congress MPs Venugopal, Hibi Eden and Adoor Prakash, Congress MP AP Anilkumar and BJP national vice-president AP Abdulla Kutty.
The cases were registered in a complaint against the accused solar scam, alleging that these leaders were sexually exploited.
He lodged a complaint with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who handed it over to the CBI, ahead of the April 2021 assembly elections.
He made the complaint after his dissatisfaction with the Kerala Police’s investigation, which did not come to fruition after several years.
The CBI has filed three cases in the Chief Magistrate’s court here and one case in the Kochi CJM’s court.
He recently cleared Eden and Prakash of all charges leveled by him.
Incidentally, the CBI took the statements of all its nominees and has now dropped all charges against three of them.
This “victim” was one of the reasons for the defeat of Oommen Chandy’s government in the 2016 Assembly polls, as frauds involving him and some members of Chandy’s office were exposed and used by the Left in the election campaign.
He and his then live-in partner had been selling solar schemes, collected money from various people and cheated them.
The left-wing government used this case in the April 2021 assembly as well.
