The health ministry will hold a meeting on Wednesday to review the rise in Covid-19 cases in China and other countries and assess the situation in India. The government has also written to all states to step up genome sequencing and send all positive samples to designated SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium-INSACOG laboratories in India. In a letter to states, health secretary Rajesh Bhushan said the public health challenge of Covid-19 continues worldwide, with around 3.5 million cases being reported every week. “Such an exercise will enable timely detection of new variants circulating in the country and facilitate the adoption of necessary public health measures,” Bhushan said.

India will hold a special round of negotiations on three of the four pillars of the US-led Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) from February 8 to 11 next year, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said on Tuesday. The three pillars are supply chain and fair economy, anti-tax and anti-corruption and clean economy. IPEF has four pillars in trade, supply chain, tax and anti-corruption and clean energy.
