His remarks clearly referred to the issue between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), which flared up again recently after troops from both sides clashed at the Tawang border in Arunachal Pradesh.

Amid the border dispute between Maharashtra and Karnataka, Uddhav-led Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut made a controversial comment on Wednesday, suggesting that Maharashtra would join Karnataka like “China joined”.

His remarks clearly referred to the issue between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), which flared up again recently after troops from both sides clashed at the Tawang border in Arunachal Pradesh.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Sanjay Raut said he did not need anyone’s “permission” on the matter.

“Just as China has entered, we will enter (Karnataka). We don’t need anyone’s permission. We want to solve it through a debate but the Karnataka CM is fanning the flames. There is a weak government in Maharashtra and it is not taking any stand,” said fiery Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut.

Raut’s statement comes at a time of heightened tension between Maharashtra and Karnataka over a decades-old border dispute, with the matter now before the Supreme Court.

However, Eknath Shinde’s government is facing criticism on the issue and furore from the opposition during the winter session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.

Leader of Opposition Ajit Pawar had earlier raised the issue of border dispute in the Assembly and said “A Lok Sabha member from Maharashtra has been stopped from entering Belgaum. It was decided in a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah that no one will be stopped from going there, then how can the collector there take that decision?” .
