Lionel Messi, arguably the greatest footballer of all time, took the sporting world by storm when he won the FIFA World Cup with Argentina, beating France on penalties in the final. After the victory of Messi and Argentina, celebrations erupted not only in Argentina but in all corners of the world. In India too, people celebrated Argentina’s third World Cup victory in a strange way. While there’s no denying that Messi has a huge following in India, the 7-time Ballon d’Or winner did his part by sending a signed jersey to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay. Shah.

Pragyan Ojha, the Indian cricket association’s representative on the governing council, shared a picture of him holding a signed Messi jersey with Jay Shah.

Ojha wrote in the post, “#GOAT sends his best wishes and autographed match jersey to jay bhai! What a humble personality. Hope to get one for myself… Soon”

Messi, who has won almost everything his career has to offer, just needed a FIFA World Cup trophy to complete his resume. In his 5th FIFA World Cup, the Argentinian scored 7 goals and provided 3 assists as La Albiceleste ran all the way in Qatar.

Messi was also named player of the tournament and awarded the Ballon d’Or for the second time in his career.

Messi was magnificent on the night of the final, scoring twice for Argentina and then also converting a penalty in the shoot-out as Kylian Mbappe’s hat-trick pushed the game beyond extra time.
