Thiruvananthapuram: Liquor sales in the state soared to new heights last Sunday, the day of the FIFA World Cup final. As reported, Bevco’s revenue from liquor sales touched Rs 49.40 crore on Sunday.
In general, the sale of 35 million euros of liquor takes place on Sundays. However, sales spiked last Sunday due to football fever in the state. During festive seasons like Onam, Christmas and New Year, liquor worth Rs 50 crore or more is sold at Bevco outlets.
According to reports, the highest liquor sale on Sunday was in Tirur, Malappuram. 45 lakh worth of alcohol was sold only in Tirur.
Meanwhile, Vythiri outlets in Wayanad stood second with a sales value of Rs 43 lakh. The Thiruvananthapuram Powerhouse road outlet also earned Rs 36 lakh from the Sunday sale.
