This academic year, there have been cases of cheating, paper leakage and mismanagement not only in board exams but also in university admission and recruitment exams. As the year comes to a close, we bring you some of the paper leakage cases and fraud allegations that have drawn attention across the country throughout the year.
AP SSC Question Paper Leak
Former minister, Telugu Desam Party-TDP chief and Narayana Group of Educational Institutions chairman Dr. Pongur Narayana was arrested by the police at his residence in Hyderabad in connection with the SSC exam question paper leak. The police said that the Telugu question paper of SSC exams was circulated on WhatsApp on April 27, and on the complaint of the District Education Officer-DEO, the case was registered at the Chittoor town police station. The Narayana group of organizations managed the invigilators, and staffed the examination centers and encouraged mass copying.
Uttar Pradesh Board scam case
UP Board class 12 English exam was leaked. The examination was canceled in 24 districts of the state after one of the two sets of question papers was leaked. According to reports, 17 people, including District Inspector (Ballia) Brijesh Mishra and a government school teacher, identified as Ajit Ojha, have been arrested in the case.
Haryana class 10 cheating case
In another case, examinees’ relatives used Bluetooth devices and paper chicks to help the candidate cheat in the exam. The Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) class 10 examination began and more than 3.64 lakh students appeared for the social science examination at 1,457 examination centers across the state. According to the media, friends and relatives of many students were found throwing answer sheets at the examination center premises by climbing the boundary walls of schools in many parts of the State. In some places, relatives were helping their children using Bluetooth devices, Hindustan Times reported.
Tomorrow Math Paper Leak
Another case is Bihar class 10 Maths paper leak. The board had to cancel the 2022 class 10 maths exam scheduled for February 17. The leak came after a large section of students alleged that the question paper was circulated on social media platforms before it began in 25 examination centres. Then, it took place on March 24, from 09:30 to 12:45. Due to this, there was a huge delay in the declaration of BSEB matric results 2022.
CBSE 1st Term Exam Cheat
The CBSE Term 1 board exams this year were allegedly marred with malpractice. The CBSE School Management Association (CSMA) says many schools shared the question paper with students before the exam. As the students were asked to appear for the exam from their schools, the CSMA alleged that many teachers were helping the students to give answers. The CSMA told the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), an association in Tamil Nadu, that teachers are giving answer keys to students, apart from leaking questions through Local Area Network and WhatsApp. The letter also asks the board to scrap the CBSE term 1 exam.
Police Recruitment Examination
Exam malpractices are not just limited to school students, there have been reports of alleged question paper malpractice in the Mumbai police recruitment exam this year. The recruitment drive for 1,076 constables for the Mumbai police began in November. More than 1,09 candidates appeared in the written test out of 10,760 top candidates were called for the ground test. According to reports, several candidates appeared during the examination. Police registered a criminal case against two persons for malpractice in police recruitment examination. One of the accused acted as a candidate on behalf of another accused while appearing for the written examination, police said, the Free Press Journal reported.
Gujarat Forest Guard Recruitment Exam Scam
The reports of the exam paper leak came during the State Forest Service examination conducted by Gujarat University on behalf of the state forest department and the police arrested eight people, including three examiners.
MPTET Paper Leak
Another paper leak case that was in the news this year was after reports of alleged paper leak in the Madhya Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (MPTET) surfaced on March 25. The allegation has been made by a candidate, who said that exam. The paper was already available on some people’s phones before the exam. No response was received from the government, the school’s education department or the Vocational Examination Board after the person’s complaint. Furthermore, it has been alleged that students who have obtained low marks have been classified without considering their merits.
