Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain produced a dominant display to reach the quarterfinals of the National Women’s Boxing Championships on Friday.
Living up to expectations, the Assam pugilist made light work of Odisha’s Puja Nayak in the 75kg round of 16 match.

Lovlina’s relentless attack and powerful punches proved too much for her opponent as the Asian champion was declared the winner by a Referee Stops the Contest (RSC) ruling just minutes into the first round of the fight.
Meanwhile, 2016 world championship silver medalist Sonia Lather of Railways Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) also entered the quarterfinals of the 57kg category after Karnataka’s Divyani made a pass.
Tamil Nadu’s S Kalaivani was the other pugilist to make it to the last eight, beating Rajasthan’s Swati Arya 5-0 in the 48 kg quarter-final contest.
Rajasthan’s Arshi Khanam and Jhalak Tomar also produced stellar performances to advance to the quarterfinals, winning their respective matches 5-0.
While Khanam beat Uttar Pradesh’s Ice Prajapati in the 54kg bout, Tomar (50kg) comfortably beat Assam’s Kampi Boro.
For Haryana, Kalpana emerged victorious in the 50 kg category with a 5-0 margin against Maharashtra’s Janhavi Waghmare.
Rajni Singh (48kg) and Rinky Kishore (50kg) were the boxers from Uttar Pradesh to enter the quarterfinals. While Rajni beat Punjab’s Suvidha Bhagat 5-0 without breaking a sweat, Kishore won RSC against Andhra Pradesh’s Kavitha Paravada.
