Man falls prey to credit card reward point fraud


A 30-year-old man has fallen for a reward points scam. The cybercriminals promised him that they could convert his reward points into instant cash and took his credit card details and OTP. 1.5 lakh he lost.

Ganesh, a 30-year-old resident of Kempegowda Nagar, lodged a complaint with the Bagalagunt police on Thursday, stating that he received a call from 7292072149 at around 7:20 pm on December 8.

The caller introduced himself as Armit Singh, a customer care employee of a private bank.

He told Ganesh that he received some reward points from his credit card and they will be converted into cash and credited to his account.

He sent a link and asked Ganesh to enter his credit card and OTP details. Ganesh entered the details as requested by the caller.

Within minutes, he was debited with Rs 1,50,500 from his account. He immediately contacted the bank to find out that the amount was debited as he entered his credit card details and OTP on the web portal.

The police have registered a case under Section 420 (cheating) of the Information Technology Act and IPC.
