Mangaluru/Udupi: District administrations announce alerts to fight Covid-19

Mangaluru/Udupi, December 25: Coastal district administrations have announced an alert to citizens due to the increasing number of Covid-19 infection cases in China. Also, in a directive, the Center has warned all states to take precautionary measures and be careful due to the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the neighboring country.

In Udupi district, no case of Covid-19 has been reported in the last month. Meanwhile in Dakshina Kannada district, Covid-19 cases were reported in single digit numbers every day. Despite the low number of cases, the district administrative bodies have taken steps to increase testing and are awaiting a new protocol from the Center to tackle the disease.

Currently in Udupi district, 50 to 100 people are being tested for Covid-19 per day, in Dakshina Kannada, 150 to 200 people are being tested for the disease daily. Both district administrations have planned to increase testing when patients report fever, cold and other ailments. Vigil has been strengthened for those who have traveled internationally and returned to India. Doctors said those suffering from cold and fever have been told to be tested for Covid-19 infection, while random testing for others is also being stepped up.

Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district administrative bodies are awaiting revision of protocols, guidelines and restrictions to be followed in view of the emerging situation from China. The district administration wants to increase the administration of the strength dose of the Covid vaccine. Those who are due to receive a preventive dose of the vaccine are being encouraged to register themselves and when 20 names are registered they will be called and informed of the vaccination date.
Currently, only Covaxin is available for administration. 41,920 doses are available in Dakshina Kannada, and 10,000 doses of Covaxin are available in Udupi.

In Dakshina Kannada 18,85,935 received the first dose of vaccine and 100% target was achieved. Of these, 18,93,641 were given a second dose achieving 100% of the target. However, only 2,26,373 have received the preventive dose out of 14,17,729, achieving about 15.97% of the target.

In Udupi, 10,90,865 received the first dose of the vaccine and 100% of the target was achieved. Of these, 10,86,733 were given a second dose achieving 100% of the target. However, only 3,00,685 have received the preventive dose administered, achieving about 30% of the target.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shobha Karandlaje said there is no Covid-19 concern in India and there is no cause for concern, even as thousands of deaths are being reported in other countries including China.
