Mathura Court Seeks Survey Report of Masjid Complex, Owaisi Reacts

Mathura (UP): A local court in Mathura on Saturday sought an inquiry report in the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah case. The district court issued an order today and directed the revenue department official to submit the survey report on the Shahi Idgah mosque complex on January 20 in the court.

Sonika Verma High Division of Civil Judge (III) heard the case of Intezamia committee against Bal Krishna and others on the petition of Hindu Sena and passed an order in the matter.

“The learned judge on December 8 directed Amin (a term used to refer to a revenue department official) to inform both the parties and submit a survey report regarding the next hearing,” said Shailesh Dubey, counsel for the petitioners.

According to the lawyer, Bal Krishna and others had filed a case in the high court of civil judge (3rd) on December 8 for altering the Shahi Masjid Idgah built on a 13.37-acre piece of Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi trust land, allegedly by demolishing Katra Keshav. Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb’s Dev Temple.

Reacting to the development, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said the Places of Worship Act prohibits these appeals and yet the courts allow them.

“After the Babri Masjid verdict, I said it will encourage the misdeeds of the Sangh Parivar. Now, the Mathura Court has also appointed a commissioner to examine the evidence inside the Shahi Idgah complex. Although the Places of Worship Act prohibits such lawsuits,” Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted.

Notably, the Shahi Idgah Mosque in Mathura is governed by the Places of Worship Act, 1991. Here’s what the law says: “An Act to prohibit the conversion of any place of worship and to provide for the maintenance of any religious character. place of worship as it existed on August 15, 1947, and for matters connected therewith or connected therewith.”

According to reports, the ‘compromise’ between Sri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan and Shahi Masjid Idgah in 1968 was also challenged in the case.
