Parliament session highlights: Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha adjourned for the day

The disruptions in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha took place on Tuesday over Congress leader Ajay Rai’s derogatory remarks against Union Minister Smriti Irani. The Congress leader made a statement against the Union minister in a pejorative manner.

Opposition leaders also issued several statements to discuss the December 9 standoff between Indian and Chinese troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). On Monday, opposition leaders staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha as notices to discuss the issue were scrapped.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar criticized Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks and said that it demoralizes Indian jawans. “Our soldiers are at an altitude of 13,000 meters on the Yangtse and guarding our border. They should be respected and appreciated,” he said on Monday.

The Repeal and Amendment Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday and the Anti-Maritime Piracy Bill was also passed.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Appropriation Bills in the Rajya Sabha authorizing the disbursement and utilization of certain sums of money from the Indian Pooled Fund for services for the next financial year (2022-23).

The winter session, which started on December 7, will last until December 29, for a total of 17 working days. There are sixteen new bills on the Center’s agenda this session.
