Alappuzha: Police have registered a case of death of a woman and her new-born child at Alappuzha medical college. The deceased have been identified as Aparna (21) and her daughter. Health Minister Veena George has announced that the department has ordered an investigation into the incident.
The police registered a case after receiving a complaint from Aparna’s relatives. They believe that medical negligence caused the death of mother and child. The relatives of the deceased have been creating a ruckus in the medical faculty.
Aparna was taken to the hospital on Monday. She went into labor on Tuesday afternoon. After that, he was taken to the labor room. Relatives alleged that the gynecologist was not present and the C-section was performed by a group of Medical students.
The hospital authority informed that Aparna breathed her last due to lapses in administration of anesthesia, relatives said. They added that the hospital authority took their consent after the C-section.
Meanwhile, hospital manager A Abdul Salam stated that they decided to perform a C-section when the baby’s umbilical cord came out. The child breathed his last on Tuesday night and the mother died on Wednesday morning.
