Palakkad: A tribal youth criticized the Public Service Commission for denying him a job because of his teeth. The complainant, Muthu of Attappadi, lost his job as a beat officer in the forest department, even though he qualified the written and physical tests for the post.
Muthu submitted his application for the post of beat forest officer under the special recruitment procedures of the Public Service Commission. He qualified in the written exam held on November 3 and later also qualified the physical efficiency test. However, he did not receive the interview letter. When asked at the PSC district office in Palakkad, the officials informed that his teeth recorded in the medical certificate had lost their function.
Muthu said at least Rs 18,000 will be required to straighten his teeth. He was unable to direct it due to poverty.
Minister for Welfare of Backward and Scheduled Communities K Radhakrishnan and Minister for Forests AK Saseendran have assured to redress the grievance and take necessary action.
