Puducherry like Tamil Nadu needs a government that can provide a Dravidian model and there should not be a joint government, Chief Minister and DMK President MK Stalin said on Monday.
Stalin was speaking at a wedding function of former minister SP Sivakumar’s son in Puducherry. Several Tamil Nadu cabinet ministers were also present.
“We cannot separate Tamil Nadu from Puducherry and Tamil Nadu,” Stalin said. “That’s why when we talk about Tamil Nadu that we have to win all 40 (Lok Sabha) seats, the lone Puducherry seat is included. Puducherry is inseparable from Tamil Nadu.”
Stalin asked the DMK party workers to prepare for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and the upcoming union territory assembly elections. “We have formed the government before and there is no doubt that the DMK will once again form the government in Puducherry,” Stalin said. “There should never be a communal government in Puducherry. We have to be careful about that.”
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the All India NR Congress (AINRC) formed the government in the union territory of Puducherry last May after toppling the Congress government (the DMK was in an alliance) in January 2021 by luring many of their leaders to the BJP. . AINRC Chief Minister N Rangasamy’s cabinet has BJP ministers.
Stalin alleged that the Puducherry government was controlled by the union territory’s Lieutenant Governor (BJP’s Tamilisai Soundararajan). “I recognize that it is a democratically elected government, but is it working for the people? There is a chief minister. Yes, it is tall, in height. But it depends. He is acting like a puppet. He is a nice person. But shouldn’t a nice person also be effective? Shouldn’t a governor be ashamed of dictating terms to the Puducherry government.’
