Rain likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry for next three days


It is likely to move slowly west-southwestwards over Sri Lanka towards the Comorin area during the next 48 hours.

Chennai: Several parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to receive rain between December 24 and 26, due to the depression over South West Bengal, which was almost stationary at 8.30 am on Friday.

It is likely to move slowly west-southwestwards over Sri Lanka towards the Comorin area during the next 48 hours. As a result, there is a possibility of increased rain activity over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal between December 24 and 26, the India Meteorological Department said.

Isolated heavy rain will occur over coastal and south Tamil Nadu during December 25-26. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Karaikal area on December 25 in Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts.

Heavy rain is likely in Tamil Nadu’s Theni, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts in Tamil Nadu on December 26.

Bad weather with wind speed of 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is likely over South West Bengal, Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, Comorin area and Sri Lanka coast.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture off the coast of south-west Bengal, Tamil Nadu coast, Sri Lanka coast, Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Comorin areas and Lakshadweep and south-east Arabian Sea from December 23 to 25.
