ST reservation hiked from 6 per cent to 10 per cent; TS issues orders amending services rules

ST reservation increased from 6 percent to 10 percent;  TS issues orders to change service rules

Hyderabad: The Department of General Administration of Telangana issued orders to amend the Telangana State and Subordinate Services Rules, 1996, to improve reservations for scheduled tribes from six per cent to 10 per cent for admission to educational institutions and also appointments to state government services. .

Necessary amendments have been ordered by substituting and deleting certain words/phrases, paving the way for implementation of enhanced reservations.

After the Telangana State Legislative Assembly unanimously passed a resolution to increase ST reservations to 10 percent, the State government issued necessary orders to improve the reservation percentage to improve opportunities for tribals in educational institutions and government jobs under the State government.

It may be noted that the State Assembly had sent a resolution to the union government seeking its permission to increase the ST reservations based on the population of the State. The Center has not yet responded to the resolution.
