Four cases of variant BF.7 have been reported in India so far

China is seeing another wave of Covid-19. The current surge in Covid-19 infections in China is believed to be driven by the Omicron BF.7 variant. Four cases of the BF.7 variant have been detected in India so far. Two cases have been reported from Gujarat and two from Odisha. This sub-variant has already been detected in several other countries, including Germany, Belgium, France, Denmark, the USA and the UK.

Omikron sub-variant BF.7: What we know so far

BF.7 is a sublineage of the Omicron BA.5 variant. according to PTI, is a highly transmissible variant with a shorter incubation period. It also has a greater ability to cause reinfection and can infect even vaccinated individuals.

According to a study published in the journal ‘Cell Host and Microbe’, the BF.7 variant has 4.4 times greater neutralization resistance than the original Wuhan virus. This means that the vaccine’s antibodies are not effective enough against the virus.

Symptoms of the Omicron BF.7 variant

The new variant presents with symptoms similar to an upper respiratory infection, including fever, sore throat, runny nose and cough.

Some patients may also experience stomach problems, including diarrhea and vomiting.

If someone is experiencing such symptoms, experts recommend getting checked out right away.

This variant may not lead to serious complications, but it can spread more quickly. Therefore, early detection and isolation are very crucial.

What is the situation in India?

Four cases of the BF.7 variant have been reported in India so far. Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has asked people to follow proper behavior against Covid. “Covid is not over yet. I have directed all officials to be vigilant and strengthen vigilance. We are ready to handle any situation,” he wrote in a tweet.

Health Principal Secretary Manoj Agarwal told the news agency ANI The central government had notified all states to ensure proper screening of international travelers, including genome sequencing, on Tuesday.

Today, China, Japan, South Korea, France and the United States have reported an alarming increase in Covid-19 cases.
