Popular Tamil actress Maayi Sundar passed away today, December 24, at 2.45 am. He was 50 years old. Maayi, who shot to fame with the 2009 film Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, was jaundiced for a long time before succumbing to her illness. Hometown Mannargudi in Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu. After his death, a wave of sadness spread across the Tamil film industry. Many fans and members of the film fraternity have also expressed their condolences on social media.

According to media portal Filmi Beat, Maayi was being treated for jaundice, however, she did not recover from the illness. Over the decades, Maayi has acted in more than 50 films including Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, Thullatha Manamum Thullum, Silkuvar Patti Singham, Kullanari Kootam, Gatta Kusthi, Katchikkaran and Milaka among others.

Actor Sampathram Sampathkumar Yashoda, who shared a close bond with the late actor shared a heartbreaking note on his Facebook handle, mourning the loss of his “close friend” and “good actor” Maayi Sundar.

“I am so sad and shocked to hear the news of my friend/actress Maayi Sundar’s death early this morning…we were friends since I joined the film industry in 1998…she is a very nice person, caring, and a good actor…I recently acted with her in Ameer sir in director UYIR THAMIZHUKKU…unbelievable now you are not Nanba…Om Shanti…” wrote Sampathram.

Another shocking fact related to the late actor’s death is that his Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu co-star Hari Vairavan also passed away on December 3 this year. Hari Vairavan was a diabetic patient who bid farewell to the world after suffering from kidney failure.

Maayi Sundar was single living alone in her hometown Mannargudi. He was an exceptional actor, bringing his emotions to life on screen with utmost perfection. Actor-producer Vishnu Vishal helped Maay reach her stardom after giving the late actress four successful films, namely Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, Gatta Kusthi, Silkuvar Patti Singam and Kullanari Kootam.

Out of the four blockbusters, director Suseenthiran’s sports drama film Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu earned Maayi rave reviews. Maayi Sundar was last seen in the Telugu-language political satire Katchi Karan. She was also part of director Adam Bawa’s Tamil film Uyir Thamizhukku alongside Ameer Sultan and Chandini Tamilarasan.
