Tamil Nadu Idol Wing to use Blockchain for complaints, grievances

The Tamil Nadu Idol Wing CID has launched a unique digital platform – a first of its kind initiative on Blockchain – to receive anonymous information on idol smuggling, possession, illegal sale of old idols, the Idol Wing said on Friday.

It is a model for UP’s Firozabad district police’s move to use emerging technology on Blockchain to receive public complaints.

Blockchain, a shared database or ledger on a computer network, stores information electronically in a digital format.

“Also, Idol Wing employees can also file complaints on Blockchain, which is also first of its kind. Public can file their complaints on decentralized Blockchain: ‘complaints.tnidols.com'” Idol Wing DGP K Jayanth Murali said.

A couple of weeks ago, Idol Wing launched NFT (Non-Fungible Tokens) and SBT (Soul Bound Tokens), which are also Blockchain-based initiatives.

Using the immutable nature of blockchain, Idol Wing now has an efficient and secure way to track and store data, he said.

Blockchain has several advantages over traditional methods of filing complaints. For example, it would make it easier to track and trace the progress of a complaint, and ensure that Wing handles each complaint with equal accuracy and consistency. It would also provide an audit trail so that any issues or concerns about the way complaints are handled can be more easily identified.

“Overall, the use of Blockchain in Idol Wing would help create a more reliable and secure system for tracking and redressal of complaints. This initiative will not only help whistleblowers to provide information about idol thefts and smugglers, but also help citizens lodge complaints on Blockchain,” said Murali.

Informants who post information about the chain leading to the kidnapping or arrest of an idol thief or smuggler will be rewarded with a Soul Bound Token / Digital Medal or NFT.

Likewise, complaints submitted by Idol Wing staff will be addressed within a fortnight and a report of the actions taken will be published on the Blockchain within a week.

This technology can also be used to store complaint information, making it easier to track and analyze complaints and identify potential issues. Adopting innovative technology can revolutionize how police complaints are handled.

The Idol Wing, in a statement here, said this initiative was launched in collaboration with Guardian Link.
