A 14-year-old boy was allegedly beaten up by staff at a de-addiction center in north Chennai’s Sholavaram, his family has alleged.
The boy, who was admitted to the center for alcohol addiction on January 21, died at the Stanley Government Hospital on Tuesday after he was found unconscious in the bathroom, his mother, center owner Vijayakumar, told. But when she got to the hospital, the mother found signs of the attack, such as bruise marks on her neck, shoulders and stomach.

While the center was closed, several prisoners were sent along with their parents.
The police will take further action against the center officials after receiving the autopsy report on Thursday.
The deceased belonged to Gummidipoondi in Tiruvallur district and his mother is a daily wage labourer.
