Expressing concern over the alleged law and order situation in Andhra Pradesh, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activists staged a protest at the Thathayagunta Gangamma Temple in Tirupati on Tuesday.
Protesters decorated neem leaves and carried ‘Veyyi Kannula Duttha’, which are sacred pots with holes, on their heads, a traditional ritual performed while taking an oath during the annual folk festival ‘Gangamma Jatara’ held in May.
Senior leader RC Munikrishna, the party’s sole corporator in the municipal corporation, said that nearly 150 TDP workers had died in the last four years because the ruling party was questioning the land scam and sand mafia.
Referring to the recent Macherla incident, he said the ruling party leaders were upset over the growing popularity of the TDP among the public. Leaders said the party cadre was not intimidated by such acts and vowed to retaliate.
