Telugu actor Chalapathi Rao passes away at 78 due to cardiac arrest

Veteran actor Chalapathi Rao died on Sunday (December 25) after suffering a cardiac arrest at the age of 78. He is known for his comic and villainous roles in Telugu cinema. Rao has acted in over 600 films throughout his career.

Chalapathi Rao was born in Baliparu, Andhra Pradesh. His son Ravi Babu is also an actor, filmmaker and producer in Tollywood. Rao starred in several films including Sakshi (1966), Driver Ramudu (1979), Vajram (1995) and Salman Khan’s Kick (2009).

After news of his death, condolences began pouring in, with many calling him the “best and bravest actor” of the current generation.

One user wrote, “The most beautiful and brave actress of past and present generation I have missed you and your right roles Om shanti.”

“We’ve lost another great actor…” wrote another.

He is survived by his wife Indumaty and three children. Among others, he also played roles in films Yamagola, Yugapurrushudu, Driver Ramudu, Sarada Ramudu, Justice Chowdary, Bobbili Puli, State Rowdy, Donga Ramudu, Allari Alludu, Ninne Pelladutha, Allari, and Nuvve Kavali. As such, he has also produced films Kaliyuga Krishnudu, Kadapa Reddamma, Jagannatakam, Pellante Noorella Panta, and Allude to the President.
