THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The New Indian Express Group won honors at the media awards announced by the Kerala Media Academy on Saturday. Vincent Pulickal, senior photographer for The New Indian Express, Thiruvananthapuram, won the award for Best News in 2021. The photo taken during the protest of PSC rank and file in front of the state secretariat got the honor.

PS Ramshad, editorial board member of Samakalika Malayalam Varika, won the best research report award. The serial titled “Kazhiyilla Charithram Maykaan, Sathyangalum” won the award. The award includes a statue, a citation and a cash prize of 25,000 rubles.

Madhyamam editor-in-chief O Abdurahman won the best editorial award. VP Nisar of Mangalam newspaper won the AN Sathyavrathan award for the best human interest story.

Madhayam’s Deepu Sudhakaran won the Dr Moorkannoor Narayanan award for the best local journalist. The series titled “Nellarayude Kanneer” won him the honour. NR Sudharmadas of Kerala Kaumudy and Arun Sreedhar of Malayala Manorama got the jury mention in the photography category. Asianet News’ Krishnendu V won the award in the visual media category.

Academy president RS Babu, secretary Anil Bhaskar and general council member Suresh Vellimangalam were present at the press meet.
