1. The winter session of the Karnataka legislature begins today in the border district of Belagavi. Controversy is already brewing after the BJP government unveiled a portrait of Hindutva ideologue VD Savarkar in the Assembly hall. The inauguration was boycotted by the Congress which is staging a dharna. The session is being held amid tight security with around 62 organizations planning protests on various issues including the Karnataka-Maharashtra border dispute. MES will hold a mega Maha Melava rally in Belagavi south in a bid to unite with Maharashtra.
2. The Janata Dal (Secular), which has twice delayed the announcement of candidates for the 2023 elections, is all set to announce some names today.
