The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) has started works to connect existing water pipes with new pipes under the ₹ 484.45 crore water supply program and plans to supply 81.10 million liters of water per day (MLD). . 60 wards within the boundaries of the corporation.
The scheme guarantees 135 liters per capita per day and the trial began in February 2021. The raw water was drawn from the Cauvery river at Varadanallur village in Uratchikottai village of Bhavani city and pumped to the treatment plant with a capacity of 120 MLD. Clean water was collected in a 52 lakh liter capacity water well and the water was pumped to Suriyampalayam and VOC Park wells from where the water is being distributed to 46 existing reservoirs and 21 newly constructed reservoirs. Water is distributed to households through 67.209 km of existing pipelines and to service connections of 1.05 lakh new households through 731.82 km of pipelines.
A senior TWAD engineer said the work to connect the old pipelines installed in 1985 with the new pipelines on the VOC Park – Stoney Bridge line by digging roads at the GH roundabout on Tuesday. Tangedco has obtained permission from the Highways and Transport departments as a power outage, the work to be carried out at 29 locations till January 8, 2023 is likely to divert traffic.
The works to be carried out at the following locations were: December 21 – GH Roundabout, Vasuki First Street, Vasuki Street, Nachiappa Street and Theppakulam Street, December 22 – Pavaadai Street, December 23 – Power House Road, December 24 – Erode – Mulanur Road. Round Sun 26th December – Erode – Karur Road Near Petrol Hotel 27th December – Near Kurikaranpalayam Bus Stand 28th December – Kalyanansundaram Street, First Street & Second Street Poondurai Road 29th December – Third Street Kalyanansundaram 30th December – Near Highways Dept. office at Poondurai Road, Dollars Colony Housing Unit, Meenatchi Sundaranar Road – Kalaimagal School Road, SKC Road Junction, Muthuvelappan Street, 31st December & 2nd January 2023 – Rangampalayam Railway Bridge, 3rd January, Back side of GH Meenatchi Sundaranar Road, VOC Park Road – Swastik near the roundabout and on December 8 at Sampath Nagar Road – near the Collectorate.
