Veteran actress Rajeeta Kochhar passes away at 70

Veteran actor Rajeeta Kochhar, 70, who starred in several films and TV shows including Tantra, Kavach… Kaali Shaktiyon Se, Hatim and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, died of kidney failure on December 23 in Mumbai.

As his niece, Nupur Kampani told us, “Last September he had a brain stroke, after which he suffered paralysis. However, he gradually improved but on Tuesday (December 20), he complained of shortness of breath and stomach pain. So we admitted him to a hospital. His health worsened yesterday, and he had to be put on a ventilator. He died around 22:15 at night”.

Recalling her last conversation with Rajeeta Kochhar, Nupur says, “When I met her in the evening (December 23), she held my hand and thanked me for everything. I told him he should live for me, and he gave me the thumbs up. That was the last conversation we had. I’m sorry he knew he was going.’

The actress was like a mother to Nupur, and she says her co-stars also used to speak to her lovingly like Maa. She says: “She may not be my biological mother, but she was more than a mother to me. He raised me and I took care of him. He was the one who didn’t care. He loved his films, his plays and his actors. They were his life. He stopped working last September after suffering a stroke.’

He also added: “He was selfless, full of life and passionate about his work. He loved everyone and spread only love. He never spoke ill of anyone. He always told us to see the positive in everyone.”

Rajeeta Kochhar, who has starred in films like Piya Ka Ghar and Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi, is survived by her husband Rajesh Kochhar and daughter Kapisha who is based in the US.
