Mangaluru: Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha extended Christmas greetings to them on Friday, December 23.

“I greet you warmly for this Christmas. May the birth of our Savior Jesus fill your life with goodness and love. Remember, only love is convincing. When you love, you become attractive. May we be champions of love this Christmas,” he said in his message and wished everyone a “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2023.”

“Jesus asks us to realize our true nature. We are made for love, not hate. God is love and the enemy of God promotes hate. Love is heaven and hate is hell… Christians represent love and service… Those who promote hatred destroy themselves before they destroy others. They don’t have God in them and that’s why
no hope either,” he said.

The bishop quoted Swami Vivekananda’s statement about the life of Jesus. Swami Vivekananda said, “It has
I lived in Palestine, at the time of Jesus of Nazareth, I would have washed his feet, not with my tears, but with the blood of my heart!” He founded the Ramakrishna Mission on Christmas Eve, the bishop said.

Like Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi also appreciated the person and teaching of Jesus. Gandhi forgave those who hurt him just as Jesus forgave those who killed him. For a world full of many contradictions, Gandhi showed the way of love and forgiveness. He identified seven deadly sins that still abound today: wealth without work, pleasure without conscience, science without humanity, knowledge without character, politics without principles, commerce without morality and worship without sacrifice, the Bishop said.

Only divine love can lift us out of this chaos and corruption affecting our society, he added.
